National Jewish Outreach Program (NJOP) recognizes Dr. Samadi and Honorable Senator Joseph Lieberman for invaluable contributions

NEW YORK, Feb. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- On Monday evening, February 13, 2012, the National Jewish Outreach program will hold its Eighteenth Annual Dinner at the Grand Hyatt New York. The dinner will honor Dr. David B. Samadi, an outstanding individual whose invaluable contributions have enabled NJOP to provide thousands of Jews with a greater connection to Judaism.

Born and raised in Iran, Dr. David B. Samadi had a Jewish upbringing quite different than the typical American experience. Rather than going to Yeshiva, which was unheard of in the Islamic country, Dr. Samadi attended a Catholic school, and lessons on his own religion were delivered by his father during the 45-minute drive to school. Dr. Samadi was forced to leave his homeland after the Revolution of 1979 made living as a Jew in Iran virtually impossible, but that did nothing to shake the deep connection to Judaism that had already been established in Dr. Samadi's consciousness.

Today, Dr. Samadi is the Vice Chairman, Department of Urology, and the Chief of Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. As a board-certified urologist and an oncologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of urologic diseases, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, and prostate cancer, he also specializes in many advanced minimally invasive treatments for prostate cancer, including his newest robotic surgery procedure, SMART Surgery (Samadi Modified Advanced Robotic Technique).  Along with a colleague, he has the distinction of performing the first eleven robotic prostate surgeries in the world.

Also being honored at the NJOP dinner are Senator Joseph Lieberman, Susan Hecht and David Cohen, Diane and Rabbi Daniel Cohen, and NJOP Associate Director, Rabbi Yitzchak Rosenbaum.

About NJOP

The National Jewish Outreach Program was established by Rabbi Ephraim Z. Buchwald in 1987, in response to the spiraling losses of Jews from Jewish life due to assimilation and lack of Jewish knowledge. Since its founding, NJOP has become one of the largest and most successful Jewish outreach organizations in the world. Through attractive and exciting free programs, NJOP reaches out to unaffiliated Jews, offering positive, joyous Jewish experiences and meaningful educational opportunities. NJOP consistently breaks the mold when it comes to promoting Judaism, using cutting-edge marketing techniques to convey the vibrancy of Judaism and to attract those Jews who are not being reached by conventional efforts. NJOP's innovative programs have been offered at more than 4,759 locations across North America and in 39 countries worldwide. Through these programs and the acclaimed Jewish consciousness raising advertising campaigns, NJOP has successfully reached more than 1,323,000 North American Jews and engaged them in Jewish life.

"I am truly grateful to Dr. Samadi. The path he took from the Middle East to America enabled me and many others to have the opportunity to be helped by this caring man. A man I now call a friend. I will take a PSA in the end of May. I am confident the result will be OK just as Dr. Samadi promised."

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in January of 2014. After researching for a surgeon the name Dr. David Samadi kept coming up for his expertise and great results. I got an appointment and went in to see Dr. Samadi and was already convinced (from what I read) that I wanted my prostate removed.
