Leading robotic oncologist, Dr. David Samadi, comments on the pros and cons of artificial sweeteners. There is some question as to whether or not artificial sweeteners cause cancer. Dr. Samadi states that this is unproven in humans. Further, the weight loss benefits of artificial sweeteners is limited and they may actually increase cravings. Overall, data on safety of artificial sweeteners is inconclusive, though Dr. Samadi adds that long-term use can lead to depression and migraines as it increases dopamine levels.
