Dr. David Samadi, prostate cancer surgeon, talks to viewers about the causes of back pain and backaches and suggests tips for reducing daily stress on the back. Sitting for prolonged periods, carrying heavy purses, and wearing heels and flips flops are among the contributors to back pain. Dr. Samadi suggests walking around, stretching, daily exercise, yoga, and replacing mattresses every 5-7 years as tips for improving back health. He also reminds viewers that back pain can be referred pain from other medical problems such as pancreatic disease, ulcers, kidney problems, and even cancer that has spread to the bone. Spinal stenosis and herniated discs are examples neurovascular or musculoskeletal problems that cause severe back pain.
