Prostate cancer expert, Dr. David Samadi, discuss retail superstore, Wal-Mart’s, plans to offer full-service healthcare and medical diagnosis in its retail locations. Their services will include management of chronic disease, prevention, diagnostic testing and acute care services. Wal-Mart intends to use nurse practitioners and physician’s assistants as their primary healthcare givers. As a prostate cancer surgeon, Dr. Samadi foresees the increased demand our aging population will have on the U.S. healthcare system and he believes this new effort by Wal-Mart could be successful. Wal-Mart’s proposal addresses healthcare access and affordability, while relieving the some of the burden on emergency rooms. Dr. Samadi also comments on the profitability aspect for Wal-Mart, pointing out that the convenience of waiting to see the doctor in the middle of a store is sure to lead to additional purchases.
