Leading robotic prostate cancer surgeon, Dr. David Samadi, comments on study from Duke University regarding the comparison of surgical outcomes from robotic prostatectomy surgery and traditional, open surgery. Dr. Samadi points out that the study involved few patients at an institution with lower surgical volume and unknown levels of surgeon expertise. Having performed close to 4,000 robotic prostatectomy procedures, Dr. Samadi reminds patients that successful outcomes hinge foremost on the expertise of the surgeon guiding the robot. Past studies of individual surgeons, experienced in both traditional and robotic prostatectomy procedures, proved better results through robotic surgery -- in recovery time, oncologic outcomes, and quality of life.

As a surgeon, Dr. Samadi leads the robotic procedure himself from start-to-finish and performs approximately 40-50 surgeries per month.
