Top prostate cancer expert, Dr. David Samadi, discusses the prevalence of sleep aids and prescriptions such as Ambien. Researchers found that sleep medication only extend sleep time by a half hour and do not help you fall asleep faster. Dr. Samadi encourages more natural remedies and lifestyle changes are encouraged such as avoiding exercise and electronics right before bedtime, and taking a supplement of melatonin. Foods containing tryptophan and magnesium can also help. Prescription sleep aids work by slowing the central nervous system, and can have side effects involving sleepwalking or driving dangers the next day.
