Call for Women to Join the Prostate Cancer Awareness Challenge

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Sep 16, 2014) - This week marks the beginning of Prostate Health Week and David B. Samadi, MD, Chairman of Urology and Chief of Robotic Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital is issuing a challenge to women worldwide. Women are often highly informed about health risks and screenings and are vigilant when it comes to routine check-ups. In Dr. Samadi's eyes, that makes them the perfect advocates for the #samadichallenge.

Dr. Samadi hopes to enlist women as the voice of candid conversations about prostate cancer symptoms, early diagnosis, and treatment options to help raise prostate cancer awareness worldwide. Building on the success of mammogram and pap smear awareness, Dr. Samadi hopes that women will help the #samadichallenge gain momentum for the sake of all men.

"If you want a job done right, you give it to a woman," said Dr. Samadi. "Women are the most proactive healthcare champions in the family and are the driving force in men's health. Time and again, it's women who make the final push for their husbands, fathers, and brothers to come see me."

Dr. Samadi unites women for prostate health

To kick off #samadichallenge, Dr. Samadi launched a new Facebook page, Women for Prostate Health, dedicated to the early warning signs of prostate cancer, particularly from the female perspective. In the near future, he will also be launching a Women For Prostate Health website to further the conversation. Dr. Samadi encourages women to see prostate cancer as a couple-centric disease, one that women and men must fight together.

"Women are absolutely affected by their partners' prostate health," said Dr. Samadi. "And they're very in tune with minor symptoms that men might otherwise brush aside."

#samadichallege for prostate cancer

Dr. Samadi challenges women to: LEARN the prostate cancer risk factors, IMPROVE the lifestyles of the men in their lives, encourage men to get SCREENed annually, and, in case of a positive diagnosis, urge men to seek TREATment immediately.

Prostate cancer symptoms can include changes in urinary function, such as a weak or interrupted flow, burning sensation, frequent urination, and blood in the urine or semen. Some men also experience difficulty achieving an erection.

Free prostate cancer screenings

The Lenox Hill Hospital Prostate Cancer Center is offering FREE prostate cancer screenings to men over 40 on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 11am - 1pm. Register by calling 212-365-5000. Dr. David Samadi will be among the prostate cancer experts administering prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood tests, as needed.

It was Dr. Samadi himself wanting to speak with both of us to find out exactly what we needed and how he could help us. Dr. Samadi was a true hero in this story. I love him for what he did and would recommend him to anyone who has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

You are the bomb! That's what the young kids say today about something that is simply the best, over the top, outstanding.  I was your 3rd and last robotic prostatectomy on Wednesday, Dec. 5th at Mt. Sinai Hospital and you had a tough time locating the walnut-sized gland...
