Peru Welcomes World-Renowned Robotic Prostate Surgeon, David B. Samadi, MD

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - May 2, 2014) Internationally-recognized robotic prostate surgeon, David
B. Samadi, MD, traveled to Lima, Peru this week to lead a keynote presentation, The da Vinci Robot - The Operating Room of the Future. Dr. Samadi was invited to join a group of physicians at the National Library of San Borja to share his extensive expertise in robotic prostatectomy and prostate cancer. His presentation also highlighted advancements in prostate cancer diagnostics, including the MRI-guided biopsy.

"International collaboration is our greatest opportunity to enhance patient care and eradicate prostate cancer," said Dr. Samadi, Chairman of Urology and Chief of Robotic Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital, whose time in Peru also included hands-on training of his Samadi Modified Advanced Robotic Technique (SMART) Surgery with the Peruvian scientific community.

SMART Surgery is a custom technique for minimally invasive robotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP). Dr. Samadi's highly successful surgical modifications are a culmination of his extensive training and experience in urologic oncology, laparoscopy, and robotics. During the procedure, Dr. Samadi pays utmost attention to the preservation of the endo pelvic fascia, urinary sphincter, and surrounding neurovascular bundles.

"Prostate cancer success and the preservation of urinary control and sex after prostate cancer are the cornerstones of my SMART Surgery," said Dr. Samadi. "Robotic prostate surgery proficiency requires a great deal of experience and I am pleased to be part of robotic surgery innovation and cancer treatment in Peru."

Dr. Samadi's informative presentation also featured the recently demonstrated success of MRI-guided biopsy in more accurately diagnosing and staging prostate cancer. Currently, prostate biopsy calls for up to 30 needle samples at one time. The new procedure requires just two and experts believe it will significantly improve prostate cancer treatment planning, as well as patient experience.

Dr. Samadi treats both domestic and international patients at The Prostate Cancer Center at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.To date, Dr. Samadi has performed more than 5,600 successful robotic prostate surgeries, each one completed personally from start to finish. With this minimally invasive prostate cancer treatment option, patients enjoy shorter hospital stays, less blood loss, and faster recovery than with traditional prostate surgery.
